LIVING HOPE BAPTIST CHURCH
If you have been around the Sango Community for awhile, you already know that Living Hope Baptist Church was once known as Little Hope Baptist Church. Even if you are new to the area, surely you have noticed the Little Hope Road sign. Ever wonder why a church would have anything with “little hope” connected to it?
In the 1860’s Baptists in the Sango Community would make the journey down the road a piece to Harmony Baptist Church. Many in the community wanted a church closer to home and began prayer meetings for such a possibility.
The odds seemed against the prayer group as many were known to say, “There’s little hope of ever having a Baptist church here.” In 1869, Little Hope Baptist Church became a reality. It seems to have started as a school a few years earlier. On September 12, 1869, the doors officially opened, literally, to 12 new members that would add to the original 33 charter members.
In 1876, a name was chosen for the church. On first vote, it was to be called
Salem. However, the name was reconsidered and another vote settled on Little Hope Baptist Church. The currently used name was established in 2014.
