SANGO UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Sango United Methodist Church had its origins before 1900 in what was known as the Morrison’s Schoolhouse. The official organiztion of the church was dated in 1901.
In 1900, the pastor was said to rent a house to live in from Sam Halliburton (a name we can recognize from the first issue of this newsletter.)
As the congregation grew, a new church building was planned. In 1955, the original building was razed. Five years later, the new building was built across the road from the old building.
Of note, the roof from the original church tower was moved to 2442 Madison Street. It sat on top of Mrs. Elzie Stanley’s gazebo.
The current building is made up of new additions and expansions to the 1960 building.
