CARNEY SCHOOL

At some point between the 1920’s and the 1960’s, there used to be another school in Sango called Carney School. It was located on Carney School Road.

We have several supporting articles that prove its existence. We have also found Carney School Road being mentioned in a government proposal for a Sango Utility District in the 1960’s. In addition, we have a map in the 1930’s showing a potential spot where Carney School was located. It may have been to the West of Woodson Road. (about where the new Sango Elementary is located). Below is the only pictoral reference that we have found.

Unfortunately with the tornado of 1999, many school historical records, including Carney School, may have been lost. The Montgomery County Highway Department does not have a map showing the Carney School Road, either. So, we have lost a school and a road in less than 60 years!

This is a reminder that historical preservation is important. If you have any information to contribute about this school or road, please share. Our goal is to help preserve Sango’s history!
